Hospital and Doctors

Hospital
It’s normal to feel scared when going into hospital. Most people do, especially if they haven’t been to hospital before.

You might have to stay in hospital for a day, a week or a few months but most people won't be there for more then a week or so. If you don't know how long you will be in for ask your doctor. To make you feel more comfortable about going into hospital, it’s good to get an understanding of why you are going in. Try and speak to your parents or doctor about it. They can explain to you the reasons for your hospital visit and what’s going to happen to you. You will most likely be in a ward with people near your age (but not always). You might have your own room or share a room with a few other people.

When it’s time to go to hospital remember that your family can come with you and be there to support you. You can also take things from home to make you feel better, like a book or a poster. Most importantly, you are not alone. There are lots of other girls who are also in hospital, and you’ll get to meet them too.

You will normaly have a t.v above your bed and hospital beds are normaly super comfy. Some hospitals have play rooms, teen rooms and a hospital school where you can keep up with school work and hang out with other teens.Although a trip to hospital will never be fun if you stay calm and keep yourfeslf busy it's not to bad .

Doctors
Remember your doctor is there to help you so you should always be honest with him or her and not feel afraid to ask any questions you may have. If for some reason your don't think your doctor is doing a good job you can always ask for a different one or if you ever want to talk to your doctor without you parents around you have the right to ask for that. You might find that your doctor can be your friend and really help you through your illness.
